se Keeper Deering was on duty on March 24, 1902, at 8 a.m. when he was summoned to act as Court Officer at Probate Court. Knowing that the next westbound streetcar was due soon and hearing a streetcar bell, he hurried out the front door. He saw the streetcar approaching and darted across the street. Inspector of Police Clarence Eugene Karrick | Louisville and Nashville Railroad
During 1930, Inspector Karrick and other detectives had been investigating tramps carrying whiskey in five-gallon cans on freight trains. Patrolman William O. Sorrell | Cincinnati Police Division
Patrolman Sorrell also entered Lewing’s unaware of the robbery-in-progress. As Sorrell positioned himself to enter the front door, suspect number two, believed at the time to have been Ike Milan, opened the door for him and, as he entered, shot the patrolman in the forehead. Read the Full Story

His remains will be buried at a later date with his wife of more than 50 years, Judith Ann (Bunger) Wintersteen, at Arlington Memorial Cemetery. There are no ceremonies anticipated.

A visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on April 7, 2025 at the House of Peace Funeral Home at 4105 East 71st Street in Cleveland. An FOP service will be held at 4:45 p.m. A wake will be held at 9 a.m. the next day, April 8, 2025 at the Temple Baptist Church at 1862 Noble Road in East Cleveland. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. officiated by Bishop David Thomas Sr. Interment will follow at the Cleveland Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 4324 Green Road in Highland Hills, Ohio.

A visitation will be held at 11 a.m. on April 4, 2025 at Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home (follow the blue line) at 2155 Compton Road in Springfield Township. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Internment will follow at 1 p.m.
