Jerry was born December 23, 1942 to Elvin and Lena Susan (Powell) McQueary. He attended Central Vocational High School where he played baseball and graduated in 1961.
After high school, he went to work at K-D Lamp Company.
Jerry joined the Cincinnati Police Division on March 12, 1967 in Recruit Class Number 48-1. He was promoted to Patrolman on June 4, 1967, issued Badge 482, and assigned to District 1 (310 Lincoln Park Drive). He was rotated to District 3 (3201 Warsaw Avenue) on August 17, 1969. Patrolman McQueary returned to District 1 on February 25, 1973, then transferred back to District 3 on February 2, 1975. On June 18, 1978, he was promoted to Sergeant, issued Badge S-148, and assigned to District 5 (1012 Ludlow Avenue). On February 15, 1980, Sergeant McQueary and another officer delivered a baby in the District 5 driveway of District 5. On March 23, 1980, he was rotated to District 4 (4150 Reading Road). Sergeant McQueary transferred a few more times before settling in as the Administrative Assistant in District 3. Sergeant McQueary retired August 8, 1992 with 25 years of service and ten letters of appreciation and/or commendation.
He was additionally Woodward High School’s first varsity baseball coach. Through The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Cincinnati, Jerry was a mentor to many youth.
Sergeant McQueary developed COPD. He had been on oxygen for a year when he died in the morning of November 17, 2024 at the age of 81.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann (Daria) McQueary, and children, Matthew (Amanda) McQueary, Steven Ray (Carol) McQueary, and Stacie Jennifer (Kevin) Childress; grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan, Griffin, Caio, and Cecilia; and brothers, James, Hugh, Tom, Bill, and Fred.
A visitation will be held 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 2024 at Vitt, Stermer and Anderson Funeral Home at 4619 Delhi Pike in Delhi. FOP Services will be at 12 p.m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph (New) Cemetery at 4500 Foley Road. Then a celebration of life will be held at The Farm at 839 Anderson Ferry Road.
