Charles was born September 2, 1955, in Cincinnati to Charles Edward and Joyce Marie (Sprecker) Profitt. He graduated from Campbell County High School of Alexandria, Kentucky.
At 18 years old, in 1973, Charles joined the United States Air Force. He completed his basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas in September 1973 and continued on at Lackland for specialized training in the security police field. He was honorably discharged in 1977.
After the Air Force, Charles almost immediately joined the Butler County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff. By 1981, he was promoted to Detective and in December 1981 successfully investigated the death of a decomposed body in Houston Woods and arrest of the murderers. He was a Sergeant by 1988 when he investigated the murder of the remains of a 23-year-old mother of three that had been missing for 14 years. By 1997, he was promoted to Captain and was the administrator of the Butler County Jail. Captain Proffitt retired in 1999 with 26 years of service to his country and county.
Captain Profitt died September 22, 2023 at home in Middletown and surrounded by family at the age of 68.
He was predeceased by his siblings, John William Profitt and Linda Joy Profitt. Captain Profitt is survived by his wife of 18 years, Sherry Profitt; mother of his children, Emily Fawn Profitt; children, Jennifer Profitt, Kelly Profitt, Kayla (Cameron) Arnett, and Kameron (Paige) Catron; grandchildren, Isabella Perry, Gracelyn Arnett, and Weston Catron; and sister, Susan Marie Miller.
Visitation and funeral service were Heldon September 26, 2023 at Breitenbach Anderson Funeral Home in Middletown. He was buried in Woodside Cemetery.
