Captain Wilbur Edward Klosterman, Jr. (1941-2024)

Wil was born September 30, 1941 to Cincinnati Patrolman Wilbur Edward Klosterman, Sr. and Aline (Flower) Klosterman of Price Hill. He attended Elder High School where he was ironically known as “Tiny.” He played basketball and football and graduated in June 1959.

On February 22, 1960, he joined the City of Cincinnati, Public Utilities Department at a Parking Meter Collector.

On September 20, 1963, he additionally joined the United States Army Reserves and served as a Combat Engineer, Demolition Specialist, and Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic for almost four years.

Almost a year after his father retired from the Police Division, Wilbur Jr. transferred to the Cincinnati Park Board on September 26, 1966. He attended the Cincinnati Police Division’s 47th Recruit Class and graduated as a Park Police Patrolman on December 28, 1966.

In September 1967, Army Specialist 4 Klosterman transferred to the United States Air Force Reserves as an Air Policeman. Air Force Sergeant Klosterman was honorably discharged in September 1969.

Over the next several years, he was promoted to Park Police Sergeant and Park Police Lieutenant. On December 10, 1987, he was promoted to Park Police Captain and Commander of the Cincinnati Park Police Department.

The Park Board disbanded its Police Department, its sworn personnel transferred to the Cincinnati Police Division on November 13, 1988, and all held their ranks. Cincinnati Police Captain Klosterman was assigned as Operations Night Chief. Captain Klosterman retired April 1, 1990 with 30 years of service to his country and community.

He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 69 and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

Captain Klosterman died on December 14, 2024 at the age of 83.

He was predeceased by his son, Jason Michael Klosterman (1974) and sister, Shirley Schwartz. Captain Klosterman is survived byhis wife of 56 years, Florence (Price) Klosterman, and sons, Todd Edward (Sandy) Klosterman and Ryan Cole Klosterman; grandchildren, Nicki, Ellie, Sami and Myles.

Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024 at Vitt, Stermer, and Anderson Funeral Home at 4619 Delhi Pike. FOP Services will be held at 12:45 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph (New) Cemetery at 2500 Foley Road.
