Police Officer Kevin Scott Flannery
(1962-2025)
Kevin was born on August 24, 1962 to Mitch and Barb Flannery. He was a star baseball and football player and swimmer from the age of ten. He attended Taft High School in Hamilton where he participated in baseball and football and graduated in 1980.
Kevin joined the Hamilton Police Department on March 4, 1985. During his career, he served as a radio operator, desk officer, court officer, and patrol officer. Over his career, Officer Flannery received several letters of commendation for his roles in capturing burglary suspects, helping capture a bank robbery suspect, and most notably for talking down a mentally distraught individual with a gun to his head who was threatening suicide. Officer Flannery retired on April 5, 2018.
Officer Flannery went on to work as a School Resource Officer for the Butler County Sheriff’s Office. He finally retired from law enforcement with 35 years of service to his community and county.
In early 2025, Officer Flannery was overcome with a quickly progressing illness. He died, surrounded by family, on February 22, 2025 at the age of 62.
Effective February 24, 2025, Hamilton Police Chief Chenoweth invoked a seven-day period of mourning in memory of Officer Flannery.
Officer Flannery is survived by his wife of 25 years, Carol L. (Schmitt); sons Jonathan Adrian (Julia) Flannery and Kevin Scott “KJ” Flannery, Jr.; parents; and siblings, Rob (Kristi) Flannery, Eric (Jen) Flannery, and Susan (Dave) Skelton.
A visitation will be held from 12 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Weigel Funeral Home at 980 NW Washington Boulevard in Hamilton. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m.
