Lieutenant Timothy A. Chesser
(1955-2025)
Tim was born June 5, 1955 in Jefferson County, Kentucky to Omer Lee “Shorty” and Delores (Hiner) Chesser. He graduated from Doss High School in Louisville in 1973. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisville and a master’s degree from Northern Kentucky University.
His law enforcement career began in 1978 in the Jefferson County and Plantation Police Departments. He then served as the Hollow Creek, Kentucky, Police Chief and then as a Deputy United States Marshal in New York.
During 1985, Deputy Marshal Chesser joined the Florence Police Department as a Police Officer. He was promoted to Sergeant within eight years. A couple of years later, he was promoted to Lieutenant and served as the department’s spokesman through the rest of his career. In October 1994, Lieutenant attended a weeklong course in Community Oriented Policing at Eastern Kentucky University. With a large Spanish-speaking population, Lieutenant Chesser brought in a Puerto Rican-born Cincinnati Police Sergeant to teach fifteen officers how to speak working Spanish. On September 29, 2003, he was given the Alma Latina Community Service Award at the first Nocho de Otono awards dinner in Covington. Lieutenant Chesser retired in early 2006 after 28 years of service to several communities.
He continued to serve with the Kenton County Sheriff’s Office as a Special Deputy and Homeland Security Specialist with the Northern Kentucky Area Development District. He also did some work with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. In August 2009, Lieutenant Chesser was appointed as an instructor at the Gateway Community and Technical College in their criminal justice program. Later, he became their Director of Safety and Security. He retired again after 14 years in 2020.
Lieutenant Chesser died, surrounded by family, on April 9, 2025, at the age of 69.
Lieutenant Chesser is survived by his wife of almost 41 years, Pamela (Smith) Chesser; children, Jonathan Chesser and Lauren (Ken) Holland; sister, Carole Ramey; and brother-in-law, Greg (Denise) Smith.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at First Church of Christ, 6080 Camp Ernst Road in Burlington. A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. A private burial will follow.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Fraternal Order of Police, or Hospice Care of St. Elizabeth.
