Deputy Thomas Peter Raabe
(1949-2025)
Tom was born March 28, 1949 with his twin sister, MaryKay Raabe, to Robert C. and Catherine Marie (Peter) Raabe, Sr. He attended Norwood High School and graduated in June 1968.
During and after high school, he did general restaurant work for Harmon Vending until May 1969.
Tom joined the United States Army in May 1969 and was assigned to Fort Dix, New Jersey. During 1970 he was assigned to Port Bellvour, Virginia. He then shipped to Vietnam where he served as an assistant squad leader. Specialist 4 Raabe was honorably discharged in February 1971.
He then attended the University of Cincinnati and earned an associate degree in Police Science.
In 1974, he worked as an operator for the Cincinnati Bus Company. He then went back to Harmon Vending as a route manager. From 1975 to 1979, he worked for the Shillito’s Department Store as supervisor of security.
Tom joined the Cincinnati Workhouse as a Guard in May 1979. On August 15, 1981, he transferred to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer 2. Every supervisor he worked for rated him as an outstanding employee. He retired with a disability on April 1, 2004 after 25 years of service to his country and county.
He also served as an usher for 45 years at St. Rose Church.
Raabe died March 18, 2025, ten day short of his 76th birthday.
He was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, George Ann (Timmons) Raabe (2024); brother, Robert Raabe, Jr., and siblings-in-law, Jim Klems and Peggy Raabe. Deputy Raabe is survived by his daugthers, Heather Ann (Jim) Kaufman and Tiffany Ann (Ross) Hallman; grandchildren, T. J. Kaufman, Cate Kaufman, Liam Kaufman, Hannah Hallman, J.J. Hallman, Frances Hallman, Ross Hallman, Millie Hallman, and George Hallman; and siblings, MaryKay Klems and Ruth Ann (Mike) Cafferky.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, March 20, 2025, at T.P. White & Sons Funeral Home, 2050 Beechmont Avenue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30, the next morning, Friday, March 21, 2025 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 2501 Riverside Drive. Burial will follow about 12 p.m. at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 11000 Montgomery Road.
