Lieutenant Kenneth Ray “Ken” Colburn
(1961-2024)

 

Ken was born August 23, 1961 in Tuscola, Illinois to Samuel and Carolyn (Kunz) Colburn. The family moved to Liberty Township in 1977. Ken graduated from Lakota High School in 1979. He then attended Miami University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.

Ken joined the Fairfield Police Department on May 20, 1985 as a Police Officer. He was promoted to Sergeant on May 2, 1989. He was then promoted to Lieutenant on September 14, 1999. He supervised Community Relations and School Resource Officers and served as the Department’s spokesman in 2005. In 2007 he attended the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy. In November 2008, he was appointed Commander of the Support Services Division. Lieutenant Colburn retired May 23, 2018 after 33 years of service.

Lieutenant Colburn died on  August 7, 2024, after a short bout with cancer, at the age of 62.

Ken is survived by his wife, Colleen (Futvoye) Colburn; son, Samuel (Sam) II; parents; siblings, Steve Colburn, David (Crystal) Colburn, Gary (Cindy) Colburn, and Sheri Colburn; and sisters-in-law, Pam, Peggy, Debbie, and Mary.

The visitation and funeral service were held August 16 and 17, 2024.
