Lieutenant James E. Ketteler
(1943-2024)

 

James was born June 21, 1943, to Lawrence and Helen Ketteler. He attended Deer Park High School. After high school, James joined the Unted States Army and served during the Vietnam War.

After his military service, he joined the Deer Park Police Department as a Patrolman. By 1981, he was promoted to Sergeant. With the retirement of Police Chief Don Lally in September 1994, Sergeant Kettler was named Acting Chief. By August 1995 Deer Park established a Lieutenant rank and promoted Sergeant Ketteler to it. Lieutenant Ketteler retired after 26 years of service.

Lieutenant Ketteler died on May 5, 2024 at the age of 80.

He was predeceased by a son, Christopher Ketteler. Lieutenant Ketteler is survived by his children, James (Tammy) Ketteler, Kelsey (Charlie) Hauke, Ashley (Joe) Triplett, and Nicholas (Ashley) Kettler; 16 grandchildren; and brother, Lawrence “Butch” Ketteler.

A visitation was held on May 10, 2024 at the Staley-Strawser Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 11, 2024 at St. John Catholic Church.

The Membership Committee of the Greater Cincinnati Police Historical Society was not notified of this death until May 15, 2024.
