Police Officer Danny Paul Greene
(1946-2024)
Danny and twin sister Diana Paula were born November 21, 1946, in Cincinnati, to notable Cincinnati Police Detective John “Jack” Greene and Ruth (Leen)Greene. Danny and all four of his brothers would eventually follow their father into law enforcement and a sister would marry a police officer.
Danny attended Western Hills High School, where he participated in Student Council and the Junior Council on World Affairs and in football and basketball. He graduated in 1965. He later attended the University of Cincinnati, majoring in Liberal Arts.
Three months after graduating high school, Danny enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After boot camp, he was assigned to Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) in El Toro, California. Four months later, he was assigned to the United States Naval Station in Adak, Alaska in charge of the brig, during which he was once named Marine of the Month. In 1966, he attended courses at Marine Corps Institute in Washington D.C. and in 1967 he attended East Carolina University to learn Spanish. Corporal Greene was reassigned to MCAS in Cherry Point, North Carolina as a meat cutter. Corporal Greene was honorably discharged on August 30, 1968.
Intent on law enforcement, he worked various jobs in Cincinnati, usually as a meatcutter and/or bartender.
Danny joined the Cincinnati Police Division on October 29, 1972 in its 58th Recruit Class. He was promoted to Patrolman on February 5, 1973, issued Badge 167, and assigned to District 3 (3201 Warsaw Avenue). One year later, he was rotated to District 1 (310 Lincoln Park Drive). On February 1, 1976, he transferred to District 4 (4250 Reading Road) and worked in the covert unit. He transferred back to District 1 on December 10, 1978. On November 29, 1981, he was assigned to the Central Vice Control Bureau. Almost a year later, on September 30, 1982, he resigned for other employment with almost ten years of service and ten letters of appreciation and/or commendation.
We have been advised that Officer Greene died on October 31, 2024.
He was predeceased by his sister, Pat Harris; brother-in-law, Barney Oldefield, Jr., and sister-in-law, Gail Greene. Officer Greene is survived by his son, Josh (Debra) Greene; grandchildren, Dawson Greene and Emma Greene; siblings, Diana Oldefield, former Cincinnati Police Cadet David (Holly) Greene, former Hamilton County Deputy Sheriff Dennis Greene, retired Cincinnati Police Officer Brian “BT” (Marylynn), and former Cincinnati Police Specialist Jack E. Greene; and brother-in-law, retired Cincinnati Police Officer Albert Harris.
A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024 at the Dennis George Funeral Home at 44 S. Miami Avenue in Cleves. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Burial to follow immediately after at Maple Grove Cemetery.
