Sergeant Gregory Paul Maley, Sr.
(1958-2024)

 

 

Greg was born on April 8th, 1958, in Cincinnati, to Richard J. Maley, Sr., and Mary Jane (Haas) Maley. He attended Saint Bernard grade school and graduated from Roger Bacon High School in 1976.

After high school, he worked at Twin Fair on Winton as a stock man. From 1979, he worked for Recto Molded Products as a shipping clerk until May 1985.

Greg joined the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office on May 30, 1985 as a Corrections Officer I. On February 6, 1986, he was promoted to Corrections Officer II. Finally, on February 2, 1989, he was promoted to Sergeant of Corrections. On June 15, 1995, Sergeant Maley completed his certification course for Ohio Peace Officer. Additional to his Corrections duties, he served as the Office’s Off-Duty Detail Coordinator. In 2002, he oversaw security for the demolition of Riverfront Stadium and the foundation of its replacement. Sergeant Maley retired with a disability on November 1, 2011 with 26 years of service.

Sergeant Maley died peacefully on August 14th, 2024 at the age of 66.

He is predeceased by his siblings, Sylvia Jean Hopper, Mary Diane Miller, Richard J. Maley, Jr., and George J. Maley. Sergeant Maley is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jane Marie (Reilly) Maley, and children, Gregory Paul Maley, Jr, Jennifer Lynn Maley, and Richard Thomas Maley.

To honor his wishes, his body was donated to science and the study of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
