Corrections Officer Marcus L. Zeigler (-2023)

Marcus was born May 5, 1987 in Montgomery, Alabama to Amos Julius Zeigler and Regina Davis. He graduated from Mt. Healthy High School during June 2006.

He owned and operated Zeigler Defense Systems from April 2017 to August 2022 and simultaneously operated Zeigler Family Daycare starting in October 2017. While doing so, he also worked as a security guard for U.S. Protection Services of Cincinnati,  BWH Security of Ashland, Kentucky, and  Valentis Security of Pittsburgh from April 2018 to August 2022 and was certified by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council in the Private Security Firearms Training in February 2022. He was also certified by the National Rifle Association and Unites States Concealed Carry Association as a Concealed Carry and Homed Defense Firearms Instructor, as well as other self-defense instructor certifications.

 Marcus then joined the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office August 18, 2022 and completed the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Academy. By May 2023 Officer Zeigler was enrolled at their Peace Officer Training Academy at Great Oaks. Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey asserted that “he made a strong impression on us from the moment he started.” 

On May 26, 2023, while participating in Police Academy activities, Officer Zeigler experienced a fatal medical emergency. He was 36.

He is survived by his wife, Cassaundra, and children, Dominique, Aziah Miles, Marcus, Gionni, and Dutchess.

A public visitation will be held 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2023 at the Spring Grove Funeral Home, 4389 Spring Grove Avenue. 

A police ceremony will be held outside the funeral home at 3 p.m. All law enforcement officers are requested to be on site no later than 2:30 p.m.
