Police Officer Jerry Gene Blazer P-126
(1951-2026)

Jerry was born June 11, 1951 to Harlan “Red” and Marion (Oran) Blazer in Kenton County. He attended Newport High School where he played on the basketball team which, at least in one year, won the conference title. He graduated in June 1969.
On August 23, 1971, Jerry enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. After basic training, he was shipped to Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa and served as a base policeman for 18 months. He was reassigned to Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, Texas, working as a Desk Sergeant and Flight Supervisor for 25 months. Senior Airman (E-4) Blazer was honorably discharged on August 22, 1975.
From 1976 to 1978, Jerry attended Northern Kentucky University, majoring in Law Enforcement.
He then joined the Newport Police Department in January 1978 as a Patrolman until July 1981.
Officer Blazer joined the Cincinnati Police Division in its 66th Recruit Class on July 5, 1981. He was promoted to Police Officer on December 6, 1981, issued Badge 126, and assigned to District 3 (3201 Warsaw Avenue). On February 20, 1983, he was rotated to District 1 (310 Ezzard Charles Drive). Due to fiscal problems at City Hall, Officer Blazer, with a wife and two young children, was laid off on May 13, 1984, for 7½ months. When he was recalled on January 6, 1985, he was reassigned to District 1. Officer Blazer transferred to the Park Unit March 7, 1993. He returned to District 1 ten years later. Officer Blazer retired January 18, 2014 with 42 years of service to the country and two communities and 17 letters of appreciation and/or commendation.
Jerry died April 5, 2026.
