Sergeant Gregory Alan “Greg” Dean
(1954-2025)

 

 

Greg was born August 31, 1954 in Cincinnati to Jack L. and Elnora W. (Mainous) Dean. He attended Purcell High School and graduated in 1973.

 While attending school, he worked odd jobs at King Kwik. Upon graduation, he took a customer representative position with the Cincinnati Bell Telephone, during which he took courses at the University of Cincinnati. In 1976, he returned to King Kwik as a manager. 

On May 30, 1979, Greg joined the United States Air Force and was assigned to the Security Police. From September 1997 to September 1983, he was stationed at Las Vegas. While there he attended courses sponsored by the City College of Chicago and University of Las Vegas. He was then assigned to Aviano, Italy where he also took courses sponsored by the University of Maryland. Staff Sergeant Dean was honorably discharged on June 4, 1987.

 Greg joined the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office on September 17, 1987 as a Corrections Officer I. He was promoted to Patrol Officer 1 where he served in Symmes Township. On July 14, 1994 he was promoted to Sheriff’s Corporal and was assigned to Sycamore as a contract car. On March 26, 1998, he transferred to Patrol/Criminal Investigation Section as a Detective on the Fraud Squad. In 1999, he transferred to the Burglary Squad in Symmes, Sycamore, and Columbia Townships. Detective Corporal Dean completed a Homicide Investigation Seminar at the Southern Police Institute on February 4, 2000. In 2004, he transferred to the Burglary Squad in Colerain Township. He was promoted to Sergeant on August 5, 2005 and was assigned to District 5. During a reorganization in the Office on December 17, 2007, he volunteered to transfer to Court Services to fill a supervisory void. Sergeant Dean retired on September 1, 2010 with 31 years of service to the country and county and numerous letters of appreciation and/or commendation.

Sergeant Dean died on June 24, 2025 at the age of 70.

Sergeant Dean is survived by his wife of 29 years, Debbie Dean; children, Branden A. Dean, Adam Gregory Dean, and Stashia; and grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Arlington Memorial Gardens in Springfield Township. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. and graveside military honors at 2:30 p
