Detective Officer David Richard Agoston
(1951-2025)

 

 

Dave was born in Cincinnati on October 22, 1951 to Gazel James “Jack” and Kathleen Lois (Selby) Agoston of Middletown. He attended St. Mary’s Grade School in Middletown, then Bishop Fenwick High School in Franklin. In high school, he participated in championship-competitive baseball, and in basketball and wrestling. He graduated in 1970.

Dave joined the Middletown Police Department as a Police Cadet, graduating from training on April 28 1972. 

 He attended the Middletown Police Academy in 1974 and was appointed as a Trenton Police Officer. He and a fellow officer started Trenton Pee Wee football in 1976. David coached football for 22 years and coached baseball for many years. On July 18, 1983, Officer Agoston located under a bridge and arrested a suspect in an Aggravate Murder of a 78-year-old stroke victim. He was later promoted to Detective. On July 4, 2000, Police Chief Joe E. Richard retired and Detective Agoston was appointed Acting Police Chief and served as such until mid-October. Detective Agoston retired in 2001 with 29 years of service to two communities. 

Detective Agoston also taught driver’s education with B-Safe Driving Education. 

Detective Agoston died at Hospice of Hamilton on April 20, 2025 at the age of 73.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Dominic. Detective Agoston is survived by his wife of 40 years, Letecia M. (Feerer) Agoston; children, Chad (Brandi) Agoston, Kristina (Charles) Heath, Bradly Agoston, and Grant (Meghann) Agoston; grandchildren, Averie, Gavin, Conner, Emma, Charles III, and siblings, Linda (Michael) Hampton and Christopher (Vernita) Daria.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Boulevard in Middletown. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon with Reverend Steve Reeves officiating. Interment will be held at Woodside Cemetery and Arboretum.
