Deputy Robert Henry Vanover Badge 642
(1940-2025)

 

 

Bob was born December 12, 1940 to Raymond and Amienee Vanover. He attended Oyler Junior High and graduated in 1959 from Central High School.

After high school, he joined the Army National Guard of Ohio and completed boot camp on June 13, 1962. He was honorably discharged from active duty on March 21, 1963 and reverted back to the National Guard.

He then attended Penn State University and was certified as an Automatic Fire Protection Sprinkler Fitter.

At some point, he transferred to the United States Air Force Reserves, was activated and promoted to Senior Airman, and on December 6, 1969 was honorably discharged again from active duty. He then transferred back to the Army National Guard.

 On July 27, 1972 Bob joined the Hamilton County Jail as a Guard. He completed the Norwood Police Academy on May 3, 1974. By 1975, he was transferred to Court Officer in the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. Then, in February 1976, he transferred to Process Officer in the Civil Division. He was promoted to Court Service Officer II and transferred to the Transportation Deputy on August 9, 1984. 

By December 1984, he transferred from the National Guard again, this time to the United States Coast Guard Reserves.

Court Service Officer II Vanover retired on February 1, 1999 with 37 years of service to his country and county. 

He also retired from the Coast Guard and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, and VFW. 

Deputy Vanover died on May 8, 2025 at the age of 84.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Glenna (Mike) Thomas, Norma Jean Vanover, and Rayma (Hoyt) Vanover. Deputy Vanover is survived by his wife of 34 years, Cora (Baird) Vanover; children, Susan Renee (Kenny) Rose, Shannon Dee (Jr) Riggs, Monica Jean (Mark) Wittwer, Robert Leonard Vanover, Tyler Baird, Austin Baird, and James Baird; 17 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and brothers, Ernie (Hubba) Vanover and Herman (Kathy) Vanover.

Visitation and services were held at Cooper Funeral Home on May 14th, 2025. He was buried at Alexandria Cemetery.
