Corrections Sergeant Allen Ray Thompson 637
(1947-2025)
Allen was born on August 21, 1947 in Falmouth, Kentucky to Bernie C. and Marian J. (Fox) Thompson. He attended Greenhills High School and graduated in 1966.
Allen joined the United States Army October 1966 during the Vietnam War. honorably discharged as a sergeant in October 1969. He was last stationed in Fort Hood where he attended Texas Central College.
On July 16, 1970, Allen joined the Hamilton County Jail as a Jail Guard. By October 1972, his title was Jailer. By February 1973, his title was Corrections Officer. He transferred to the Civil Division of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Officer on August 7, 1975. On April 10, 1976 he was promoted to Patrolman and assigned to the Road Patrol. On November 29, 1983, he returned to the jail as a Corrections Officer 2. He was promoted to Corrections Sergeant on June 15, 1995. Sergeant Thompson retired on June 30, 2006 with almost 40 years of service to his country and county and numerous letters of appreciation and commendation.
In retirement, he moved to Bonita Springs, Florida, where he was active in VFW Post 4254 and the Eagles.
After an extended illness, Sergeant Thompson died on May 27, 2025 at the age of 77. He is survived by his son, Terry Paul Thompson, and brother, Daniel Thompson.
A visitation will be held 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Tr. S. in Bonita Springs. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. followed by military honors rendered by the United States Army. Sergeant Thompson will be laid to rest on Monday, June 16, 2025, in a private family ceremony at Sarasota National Cemetery.
