Police Specialist Glenn Paul Taylor PS-123
(1946-2026)
Glenn was born February 22, 1946 to Cincinnati Patrolman Donald Thomas and Thelma Margaret (Miller) Taylor. By 1955, Patrolman Taylor was experiencing a flourishing career and assigned to the Vice Control Bureau. He started out with his family on a two-week vacation when, during the early morning of July 30, 1955, a vehicle came across the centerline of Route 127 and struck the Taylor vehicle head on. Glenn’s father was killed, as was their pet dog, and Glenn, his sister, and mother were seriously injured and were hospitalized over a month. Five years later, Glenn attended Western Hills High School until 1964, dropping out to fight in the Vietnam War.
On January 31, 1965, Glen enlisted in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He completed basic training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center and was thereafter assigned to the U.S.S. Hitchiti ATF-103. The Hitchiti joined the 7th Fleet off Vietnam on October 25, 1965, operating in the war zone until April 12, 1966. She arrived back at Pearl Harbor on April 27th having 9,000 miles of towing and four salvage operations to her credit during her deployment. She then operated in Hawaiian waters. Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class Taylor was honorably discharged in January 1969.
Glen joined the Cincinnati Police Division in the 55th Recruit Class on February 28, 1971. He was promoted to Patrolman on June 27, 1971, issued Badge 796, and assigned to District 5 (1012 Ludlow Avenue). Officer Taylor was transferred to District 3 (3201 Warsaw Avenue) on July 9, 1978. He was promoted to Police Specialist on November 8, 1981, issued Badge PS-123, and assigned to the District 3 Mini Tactical Unit until October 5, 1983. He then joined Lieutenant Roert Andriot’s “Greatest Relief.” On November 13, 1985, Specialist Taylor engaged in a foot pursuit behind the old St. Francis Hospital on Queen City Avenue, during which he fell and caused serious damage to his right shoulder, from which he never fully recovered. Specialist Taylor transferred to District 4 (4150 Reading Road) on October 18, 1987. Three months later, he transferred to the Impound Lot. Specialist Taylor retired from a physical disability on May 16, 1990 with 24 years of service to his country and community and 20 letters of appreciation and commendation.
Specialist Taylor died peacefully at home on July 31, 2026.
He was predeceased by his son, Donald Taylor. Specialist Talor is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol Ann (Cupito) Taylor; sons, Nick Taylor and Matt Taylor; daughter-in-law Deanna Taylor; grandchildren, Matthew, Ashlyn, Alec, Josh, Hope, Ben and Leah; and great-grandchildren, Ailey, John and Brendon.
Visitation and an FOP service will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at St. John the Baptist Church at 10010 Carolina Trace in Harrison. A Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. After mass there will be a veteran service followed by a lunch for all.
