The Greater Cincinnati Police Historical Society (GCPHS) maintains records of personnel who have served in any capacity within the Greater Cincinnati region, including Boone (KY), Butler (OH), Campbell (KY), Clermont (OH), Dearborn (IN), Hamilton (OH), Kenton (KY), and Warren (OH) Counties. These include about 160 vigilante, private, village, town, city, township, county, state, and federal agencies that have served more than 600 documented communities over the course of almost the entire 250 years of our country’s existence.
The total number of men and women who have served from the late 18th century to present will never be known, but the personnel for which we have one or more records number in the thousands. In July 2026, we embarked on a multi-year project to list those personnel, first on this website, and later at the Ohio Historical Connection and United States Library of Congress. In August, we posted the first 1000+. Our goal is to list 5000 by December 2026.
The records for any of these personnel are available, by request to Historian@Police-Museum.org. Our staff is small, so we limit the number of requests to one per customer per month. Exceptions may be made for genealogical research for multiple personnel from one extended family if that linkage can be demonstrated to the satisfaction of the Historian.
A number of our records were provided by government agencies or scanned in accordance with a government grant with provisos that we provide them appropriately redacted and at minimal or no cost. We treat all official personnel records as such, regardless of how they came into our care.
Other items, like digital images of photographs, articles, et al. that we already have saved in an electronic personnel file, we may provide by email without cost, though a donation would not be rejected.
All other services will be charged at $25.00 per hour, with a one-hour minimum, plus sales tax of 7.8%. GCPHS members receive a 10% discount and there is no cost to Role of Honor members. The most common of these services are:
- Translation of poorly digitized (by the government agency) records (less than 1 hour)
- Written narratives of the careers of personnel based solely on an official personnel record (usually 1 hour or less)
- Biographies or obituaries to include research from resources currently available to GCPHS (usually 3 hours). Add time for footnoting/end noting with references and/or inclusion of images of photographs, articles, et al.
NOTE: Some biographies of legendary and notable personnel, obituaries for more than 1000 law enforcement employees since 2017, and complete profiles of officers killed in the line of duty since 1852 may be found elsewhere in this site without cost. Contact the Historian for costs of narratives of these with footnoted references.
