Corrections Officer Earl D. Corell Badge 1059
(1948-2025)

Earl was born on August 4, 1948 in Cincinnati to Earl Louis and Esther M. (Henkel) Correll. He graduated from Western Hills High School and attended Xavier University, majoring in accounting.

Earl was drafted into the United States Army in September 1969. He served in transportation in Vietnam and as a personnel processing officer. He was honorably discharged in September 1971.

Earl then worked for Riemeier Lumber as a payroll clerk, then credit manager, until March 1985.

In 1980, Earl cofounded, and was elected first President of, the Vietnam Veterans of America, Cincinnati Chapter 1 (VVA-I). The organization quickly grew to 190 members and in 1984, they dedicated the Vietnam Veteran Cincinnati Memorial in Eden Park after he spearheaded an $83 million fundraising effort. He was also a member of the National League of Families (POW/MIA), American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Earl applied to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office for the position of Corrections Officer in 1985. His references included Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Judges Simon Leis, Jr. and Norman Murdock,  Municipal Court Judges Diedra Hair and Timothy Hogan, and Hamilton County Sheriff Lincoln Stokes and Colonel Harry Bodie. He was appointed to the position on December 12, 1985. Corrections Officer Correll served in almost every Corrections facility during his career and in the Courts and Jail Services Division. He retired on May 1, 2017 with 32 years of “outstanding service,” according to then Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil.

Corrections Officer Correll died on November 1, 2025.

His two daughters, Christina Marie Kleiner and Cheryl Ann (Justin D.) Westrich, survive him.
