Sergeant Rickey Lynn “Rick” Iredale
(1947-2026)

Rick was born on August 11, 1947 in Madeira to Robert E. Iredale, Jr. and Eileen (Jamison) Iredale. He attended Madeira High School where he played halfback on their football team.

On September 1, 1965, during the Vietnam War, Rick joined the United States Marine Corps and spent 13 months overseas. Sergeant Iredale was honorably discharged on August 31, 1969 with a National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Rifle Marksman Badge. He then transferred to the USMC Reserves where he continued to serve until May 4, 1971 and was discharged with another Good Conduct Medal.

From then until 1987 he attempted numerous careers, including home construction, jeweler, railroad clerk, tree maintenance, and medical message therapist.

In April 1983, he rejoined the military in the Marine Corps Reserves and served another 14 years as an M.P. in the Dayton, Ohio detachment. He retired as a Gunnery Sergeant.

Rick joined the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office on September 17, 1987 as a Corrections Officer. As a USMCR Staff Sergeant he was activated on February 1, 1991 for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He returned to the Sheriff’s Office on April 1, 1991. On February 13, 1992, he was promoted to Corrections Sergeant. During his entire career, Sergeant Iredale had but one blemish, that of a prisoner being released by a subordinate when there was a Middletown holder on the subject. Nearly all of his Sheriff’s Office performance evaluations include the word, “outstanding” within their narratives. Sergeant Iredale retired on September 1, 2007 with 30 years of service to his country and county and several internal commendations.

He was also a member of the Fairfax, Ohio American Legion Post 554.

Sergeant Iredale died peacefully, with his family at his side, at his home in Lebanon on  May 11, 2026 at the age of 78.

He was predeceased by his brother Robert E. Iredale, III (1998). Sergeant Iredale is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Diane Lee (Kaufmann) Iredale.

Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Stine Funeral Home of Lebanon on Friday, May 15, 2026. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. with Pastor Steve Tufts officiating. Interment will follow, with military honors, at Meyers Cemetery in Goshen.
