Police Officer Melford Austin Peyton

Melford was born March 4, 1940 in Morgan County, Kentucky to Herold and Mayme (Brown) Peyton.

He joined the United States Air Force and served, in part, in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1961.  He also served 21st Air Refueling Wing, based at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base, and retired as a Master Sargent.

Melford also joined the Middletown Police Department.  On April 9, 1967 he graduated from the recruit training course.  He served until retirement.

Officer Peyton was a member of the American Legion Hamilton Post 138 and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3809 and the Disabled American Veterans.

Officer Peyton passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at the age of 79.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Genevieve Peyton (2010), and son, Keith Austin Peyton (2008).  Officer Peyton is survived by his second wife, Patricia Sorrell Peyton; daughter, Rena (Todd) Morgan; stepchildren, Tim Sorrell and Beth (Bob) Landrum; grandchildren, Brittany (William Ray) Hall Jr., Ashley Macal, Marina Peyton, Rocky Peyton, Savannah Peyton, Abby Morgan, Rocky (Chelsea) Staton, and Brad (Kayla) Sorrell; great-grandchildren, Michael Holbrook, Mason Sorrell, Emalyn Sorrell, Owen Staton, and Spencer Staton; and brother, James Vernon (Pat) Peyton.

Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, September 23, 2019 at Breitenbach-Anderson Funeral Home at 517 S. Sutphin in Middletown.  A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with Pastor Kevin Collins officiating.  Burial, with military honors, to follow at Butler County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Yankee Road First Church of God Building Fund.
