Patrolman Bernard H. Bowman
Bernard was born April 10, 1931, the fifth of nine children born to Jonas Joseph and Gertrude Grace (Rockwell) Bowman.
He served on the Miamitown Volunteer Fire Department/Life Squad for about 20 years during the 1960s and 1970s; once delivering a baby in his ambulance.
Bernard joined the Cheviot Police Department as a Patrolman about 1978. He served there until 1996.
He then joined the Ohio Highway Patrol as a Load Limit Inspector on April 30, 1996 and was the Weigh Master at the Interstate 74 truck scales in Harrison. He retired during October 1981 with 32 years of service.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 113.
Patrolman Bowman died September 14, 2019 in Miamitown at the age of 88.
He was predeceased by his wife, Esther Lee (Willer) Bowman, five months ago. Patrolman Bowman is survived by his son, Wayne B. (Vivian) Bowman; granddaughter, Angela M. (Donald) Fette; great-grandchildren, Austin James (Lex) Reed, Alexis J. (Danny) Fette, and Hunter Orion Fette; and great-great-grandson, Kai Fette. He was also the brother of the late Harold, Jonas, Floyd, Roy, Oliver “Sonny” and Minnie May Bowman, Mary Hilbert and Hazel Burroughs.
Visitation will be held 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday September 19, 2019 at the Dennis George Funeral Home at 44 S. Miami Avenue in Cleaves. Interment following in Miamitown Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Bright Christian Church or PAWS.
