Police Specialist Kenneth Harry Bohnert
(1934-2025)
Kenny was born on October 26, 1934 to Louis and Neva Bohnert in Cincinnati. He attended Elder High School, graduating in 1952. He later attended Salmon P. Chase College of Law earning in 1963 an associate degree in Police Science and minoring in Administration.
Kenny joined the United States Army on May 27, 1954. He served at Fort Dix, New Jersey, including their Honor Guard. Private 1st Class Bohnert married Sandra LeVecci on October 30, 1955. He was honorably discharged on May 26, 1956 with a Good Conduct Medal.
Kenny then joined the Borough of Verona (New Jersey) Police Department as a Temporary Patrolman on June 3, 1958. He was promoted to Patrolman on January 1, 1959. He and his Police Chief competed in pistol shoots. Patrolman Bohnert resigned in October 1959 to return to Cincinnati with his wife and daughter.
On October 12, 1959, he joined the Cincinnati Police Division’s 37th Recruit Class. He was promoted to Patrolman on February 3, 1960, issued Badge 18, and assigned to District 1 (310 Lincoln Park Drive). On November 27, 1960, he was rotated to District 3 (3201 Warsaw Avenue). Three years later, he requested a transfer back to District 1. On June 1, 1962, while on routine patrol, Patrolman Bohnert saw a service station garage door slightly open. When he investigated, he found a burglar inside, earning him a Chief’s Commendation. On January 1, 1965, he was transferred back to District 3. On November 2, 1972, he was promoted to Police Specialist, issued Badge PS107, and re-assigned to District 1. Specialist Bohnert retired on November 15, 1986.
He returned to the Division two weeks later as a Police Technician and was assigned to District 1. On May 28, 1989, he transferred to the Supply Unit. Police Technician Bohnert resigned on January 3, 2004 with 48 years of service to his country and two communities and 18 letters of appreciation and/or commendation.
Officer Bohnert died on May 16, 2025 at the age of 90.
He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Sandra A. (LeVecci) Bohnert (2001), and siblings Donald Bohnert and Marlene Bohnert. Officer Bohnert is survived by his children, Susan Lynn (Marc) Meiser, Kenneth Scott (Penny) Bohnert, and Brian John (Judy) Bohnert; grandchildren, Sarah Saskowsky, Shane Ranz, Seth Ranz, K.C. Hafele, Jessica Wilson, and Ross Wilson; great-grandchildren, Anna, Ally, Ayla, Weston, Lila, Charlie, Whitley, and Kat; and siblings, Eileen Lombardi and Michael Bohnert.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025 at Ralph Meyer & Deters Funeral Home at 4164 W. 8th Street in Price Hill. An FOP service will be held at 10:45 a.m. A funeral service will follow. He will be buried at St. Joseph (Old) Mausoleum.
