Police Officer Gary Lee Benson
(1947-2024)

Gary was born July 17, 1947 in Hamilton to Carl B. and Martha Ann (Banker) Benson. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1966.

Gary joined the Fairfield Police Department in March 1971 as a Patrolman. Officer Benson retired in April 2000 with 29 years of service.

After retirement he worked for Fairfield City Schools helping with security.

Officer Benson died, surrounded by his wife and children, on August 10, 2024.

He was predeceased by his brother, Mike Benson, and sister-in-law, Sharon. Officer Benson is survived by his wife of 31 years, Deborah A. (Combs-Beyer) Benson; children, C. Todd (Emily) Benson, Tiffany Benson, Matthew (Stephanie) Benson, Jennifer (Beyer) Crail (Michael), and Brian (Natasha) Beyer; grandchildren, Logan Hurtt, Nolan Hurtt, Brynnlee Benson, Adelynn Benson, Morgan Crail, Mason Crail, and Miles Crail; great-grandson, Theodore (Crail) Smith, and brother Carl B. (Andrea) Benson; He leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, brother, and sister-laws. He was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hamilton, Ohio.

Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, August 19, 2024 at the Avance Funeral Home, 4976 Winton Road in Fairfield. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. with Pastor Kevin Jud officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, 1602 Greenwood Avenue in Hamilton.
