Wayne was born July 14, 1930 in Hamilton to Thomas E. Rose, Sr. and Irma G. (Williams) Rose. He graduated from Hamilton High School in 1948.
Wayne joined the Hamilton Police Department as a Patrolman in 1954. He was promoted through the ranks to Detective, Sergeant, and Lieutenant before 1971. In March 1971, a Police Supervision Course was established at the Hamilton Campus of Miami University and Lieutenant Rose was one of the first to complete it. Through his lieutenancy he served as a patrol commander, traffic lieutenant, training officer, and chief of detectives. Lieutenant Rose retired in 1985 after 31 years of service.
He then went to work for the Butler County Prosecutor’s Office as a Law Enforcement Liaison for another nine years.
Lieutenant Rose died at Hospice of Hamilton on November 20, 2024 at the age of 94.
He was predeceased by his wife of 33 years, Janet L. (Couch) Rose; son, Maury Goebel; and brother, Hamilton Police Sergeant Thomas E. Rose, Jr. Lieutenant Rose is survived by his second wife of 30 years, Lois (Todd) Rose; children, Steven W. (Linda) Rose, and Crystal (Mark) Bowling; Lois’ children, Fred (Angie) Boggess; grandchildren, Loren (Steven) Zettler, David (Katelyn) Bowling, Julie (Brion) Treadway, Katie (Jason) Sugg, Caleb Boggs, and Hallie Bogges; and 12 great-grandchildren, Josie, Will, Andy, Frankie, AJ, Kendall, Brooks, Ava, Maddie, Boone, Treadway, Hudson, and Caroline.
A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at the Zettler Funeral Home at 2646 Pleasant Avenue. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. The Hamilton Police Honor Guard will assist with the service and escort, providing a casket guard and an escort to Rose Hill Cemetery.
