Sergeant Paul Stephen “Steve” Timmer (1945-2023)

 Steve was born September 4, 1945, in Hamilton, to Hamilton Patrolman Paul Elmer and Mrs. Norine M. (Long) Timmer. He attended Hamilton public schools and graduated from Hamilton Taft High School in 1963.

 Steve followed his father, retired Lieutenant Paul Elmer Timmer, into policing and joined the Hamilton Police Department as a Patrolman on October 21, 1967. In November 1976, he finished third on a promotional examination and was promoted to Detective on June 25, 1977. He was promoted to Sergeant on December 22, 1984. Sergeant Timmer retired on March 1, 1994 with 26 years of service to his community.

He then took a position as bailiff for the Appeals Court Judge H. J. Bressler. 

Sergeant Timmer was a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 38. He was elected Outer Guard in 1971, later served as its Treasurer for a number of years and was responsible for paying down the mortgage on the lodge hall. He was also a member of St. Peter in Chains Church.

Sergeant Timmer passed away on November 15, 2023, at the age of 78.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Linda Timmer (1997), son, United States Army Chief Warrant Officer Paul Stephen Timmer, Jr. (1991), and brother-in-law, Ohio Adult Probation Officer Supervisor Robert Tinsley. Sergeant Timmer is survived by his wife of three months, Emily Hurst; son, Greg (Kristin) Timmer; grandchildren Brandon, Victoria, and Kaiden; great-grandson, Andrew; and siblings, Susan Tinsley and Bill (Fanny) Timmer.

Private burial and graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at St. Stephen Cemetery.
