Police Officer Edward William Fischer, Jr. (1945-2023)

Ed was born on April 2, 1945 in Cincinnati to Edward William and Martha Sue (Weddendorf) Fischer, Sr. He attended Colerain High School from 1959 to 1961.

Ed joined the United States Army during the Vietnam War and served as a paratrooper.

When he came home, Ed joined the Mack Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter and later ascended to paramedic.

Ed joined the Green Township Police Department on October 13, 1980. He completed the Peace Officers Training course later that year. Within four years, he was already working as the assistant range officer and was considered the “top officer of his squad.” In August 1988, Cincinnati Police Chief Larry commended him for his associating a Colerain Township arrest with Green Township and Cincinnati robberies. In November 1988, the Hamilton County Sheriff commended him for talking down a youth threatening to kill himself after being caught in a burglary. In April 1990, Hamilton County Board of Commissioners President Steven J. Chabot commended him for his heroism at a house fire on Jessup Road. On April 2, 1991, the Green Township Trustees awarded Officer Fischer with a certificate of appreciation. All of his performance evaluations speak to aggressive law enforcement, direct and precise communications with the public, and loyalty to the Department. He was certified as an Intoxilyzer operator, Advanced Vehicular Accident Investigator, firearms instructor, Ruger armorer, and Basic Police Motorcycle Operator. Officer Fischer retired on September 20, 2003 with more than three decades of service to his country and community and several letters of appreciation and/or commendation.

Officer Fischer died on September 8, 2023 at the age of 78.

He was predeceased by his brother, John Fischer. Officer Fischer is survived by his children, Edward William (Daphne) Fischer, III, and Lanelle Sue Fischer; grandchildren, Sophia Fischer and Sydnie Fischer; and sister, Sandy (Bud) Jenkins.

Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2023 at Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Home, 5527 Cheviot Road. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m.
