Dispatcher Bernard Joseph “Bernie” Woebkenberg (1953-2023)

Bernie was born September 8, 1953. He attended Moeller High School, graduating in 1971. He then earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Cincinnati majoring in Economics.

Bernie worked at The Medicine Shop on Montgomery Road from 1973 to 1975. He worked for a year at Handleman Company on VanMeter, then another year at Gold Circle at Ridge and Highland.

Bernie joined the Cincinnati Police Division on September 25, 1977 as a Clerk-Typist I in Police Communications Section (310 Lincoln Park Drive). He was appointed Assistant Operator Dispatcher on September 30, 1979. On May 13, 1984, he was reclassified as Operator Dispatcher. Dispatcher Woebkenberg retired on December 1, 2007 with thirty years of service to his community and two letters of commendation, one from Police Chief Michael Snowden.

Dispatcher Woebkenberg took ill around the holidays and died on January 23, 2023.

Dispatcher Woebkenberg is survived by his wife of almost 37 years, Valerie (Ingels) Woebkenberg, and children, Eric Joseph Woebkenberg, Michael David Woebkenberg, and Emily Diane Woebkenberg.
