Police Officer Timothy Ray Cummins (1948-2022)

Tim was born August 17, 1948 to Robert Cummins and Evelyn Katherine (Courtney) McElfresh. He attended Holmes High School.

On December 19, 1966, Tim joined the United States Marine Corps. He graduated from boot camp in San Diego and was then assigned to the Naval Air Station in Memphis, Tennessee for five months. He then shipped out to Pa Nang Mag for ten months during the Vietnam War. He was then assigned to the Marine Corps Air Station at New River, North Carolina for two years. Corporal Cummins was honorably discharged October 16, 1970.

Upon returning home, he was a salesman for Western Southern. In June 1971, he purchased and operated Ken’s Grocery. He sold it a year later and went to work at Kroger’s on Chesterdale Road.

Tim joined the Cincinnati Police Division on October 29, 1972 as a Police Recruit. He was promoted to Patrolman on February 25, 1973, issued Badge 656, and assigned to District 6 (3295 Erie Avenue). After a year, he was rotated to District 5 (1012 Ludlow Avenue). On January 4, 1976, he transferred back to District 6. Officer Cummins also served in District 4 (4150 Reading Road), District 3 (3201 Warsaw Avenue), and the Telephone Crime Reporting Unit. Officer Cummins retired with a disability on December 10, 1995.

He then took a position as Police Technician in District 5. He also served in District 3 and Records Section (824 Broadway). Officer Cummins resigned on February 2, 2008 with 40 years of service to his country and community and seven letters of appreciation and/or commendation.

Officer Cummins died on December 9, 2022 at age 74.

He was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Stevens. Officer Cummins is survived by his son, Eric Spokas. Private services were held at the convenience of the family.
