Police Officer David W. Crawford (1960-2022)

Dave was born November 20, 1960 in Hamilton to Marc and Ann Crawford. He attended Taft High School, Miami University, and Cincinnati State Technical College.

On September 24, 1982, Dave attended the Butler County Sheriff’s Office Police Academy and worked as a Special Deputy until January 1, 1985 as a Road Patrol deputy and in the Jail Division.

Deputy Crawford attended the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy and joined the Hamilton Police Department as a Police Officer on March 17, 1984. During the first portion of his career, he worked in the Patrol Division and Traffic Division, as a Court Officer, Desk Officer and, in the Honor Guard Unit. Before 2006, he was assigned as the Public Information/Crime Prevention Officer in the Public Affairs Section. During 2008, Officer Crawford served as Project Manager of the Carruthers Police Plaza, in charge of phase two of an improvement project consisting of new landscaping, security lighting, awnings at all entranceways. He also researched the Department’s history, resulting in a display of historical photographs and portraits throughout the department. He also had a hobby of collecting police lapel pins throughout the world and police related memorabilia.

Officer Crawford was a member and board member of many local civic originations, Ohio Crime Prevention Association, National Public Officers Information Association, and International Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Association. He served on the board of directors for MADD of Southwestern Ohio, Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc., Visitors and Convention Center, Accent Hamilton, Open Door Food Pantry Board Member, Dayton Lane Historical Society, Safe Kids Coalition, FOP Lodge 38, Washington Lodge Masons, and the High Twelve Club. He was once awarded employee of the month, MADD’s Top Cop Award, along with many other certificates of dedication and appreciation. He retired about 2012.

Officer Crawford rejoined the Butler County Sheriff’s Office as a part time Deputy from October 8, 2012 until Novembe 11, 2016. Then again, he worked as a Special Deputy and Corrections Officer from April 26, 2018 to July 30, 2018. He also worked for the Ross Township Police Department. He retired from law enforcement with 36 years of service.

Officer Crawford recently contracted Pancreatic Cancer. He died during the morning of October 1, 2022 at 62 years of age.

Officer Crawford is survived by his wife of three years, Kathy (Price) Crawford; children, Sarah (Kenneth) Crawford and Thomas Crawford; grandchildren, Eva Carpenter, Jessa Carpenter, and Ilsa Carpenter; and siblings, Douglas (Teresa) Crawford and Marcia (Bob) Dennett.
