Police Officer Daniel Morgan Noel (1941-2022)

Dan was born October 7, 1941 in Ashland, Kentucky to Kelly W. Noel and E. Marie (Conoy) Noel-Shepherd. He attended Norwood High School, served on student council, and graduated in 1959. He also attended the University of Cincinnati taking Bookkeeping, Psychology, Business Law, and Economics.

From 1959 to 1962 he worked for Elmara Corporation as a bookkeeper.

Dan was drafted into the United States Army on December 12, 1962 during the Vietnam War. His basic training was at Fort Jackson in South Carolina. He attended Radio School at Fort Gordon, Georgia and served as a radio operator at Fort Carson, Colorado. Specialist Four Noel was honorably discharged in December 1964 with a Good Conduct medal.

He returned to Elmara Corporation until August 1965, at which time he joined Hobart Welder Sales and Service as an office manager.

Dan joined the Cincinnati Police Division on March 12, 1967 as a Police Recruit. On June 4, 1967, he was promoted to Patrolman, issued Badge 578, and assigned to District 6 (3295 Erie Avenue). On December 14, 1969, he was rotated to District 1 (310 Lincoln Park Drive). Officer Noel transferred to Police Communications Section on June 25, 1978. Nine years later, he transferred to the Court Administration Unit.  On July 1, 1990, he transferred back to Erie Avenue, by then designated as District 2, and impressed his supervisors with his ability to run one of the most active beats. Officer Noel retired on September 18, 1993 with 27 years of service to his country and community and eleven letters of appreciation and/or commendation.

He also worked odd jobs, from painting residential and commercial interiors to landscaping.

Officer Noel died on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at the age of 81.

He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Sharon Irene (Myers) Noel (July2022), and daughter, Kimberly Jo Lynch. Officer Noel is survived by his son, Blue Ash Police Chief Scott Daniel (Rebecca) Noel; son-in-law, Paul Lynch; grandchildren, Todd Lynch, Daniel (Lexi) Noel, Rebecca (Thomas) Bradford, Samuel Noel, and Jacob Noel; great-grandchildren, Mason, Tucker, Charlie, Easton, and Colt; and brother, Jack (Susan) Shepherd.

Visitation will be held 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Home at 10211 Plainfield Road.  An FOP service will be held at 1:45 p.m.  Interment will follow on the grounds at Rest Haven Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to The Shield or Hospice of Southwest Ohio.
