Deputy Gene Lynn Wohlfeil (1951-2022)

Gene was born March 30, 1951 in Cincinnati to Willard and Claudia Wohlfeil. He graduated from Green Hills High School in 1970.  He also took a course in Police Science at the Miami Valley Institute of Technology from 1970 to 1971.

He went to work for Central Steel and Wire Company during January 1971 until October 1974.

During October 1974, Gene joined the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office on October 3, 1974.

He left on November 11, 1978 to be a Patrolman with the Glendale Police Department beginning November 27, 1978.  He resigned May 27, 1979.

On June 21, 1979 he rejoined the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office as a Patrol Clerk.  He was promoted to Patrol Officer on February 10, 1983.  Patrolman Wohfeil was injured in 1990 and during 1996, with 22 years of service, accepted a disability retirement.

He was also a volunteer firefighter with the Northern Hills Fire Department.

During 2021, Deputy Wohlfeil was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He died May 26, 2022 at the age of 71.

Deputy Wohlfeil is survived by his wife of 43 years, Karen Sue (Seward) Wohlfeil; children Casey Scot (Mariah) Wohlfeil, Kimberly Sue (Shawn) Regan, David Joseph Wohlfeil, and Kara Sue (Matt) Rogers; and grandchildren, Kylee Regan, Vivien Wohlfeil, John Wohlfeil, Jacob Wohlfeil, and William Rogers.

A memorial service will be held in September when his son returns home from overseas.
