Police Chief Steven Ray Vanover

Steve was born May 15, 1965 to Denver Lee and Patricia Ann Vanover.  He attended Norwood High School and earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Cincinnati.

Steve joined the Milford Police Department as a part time Police Officer about 1992.  He then took a fulltime position in the Mason Police Department.

Officer Vanover joined the Sharonville Police Department as a Police Officer about 1999.  During the next 13 years, he served as a senior patrol officer, bicycle patrol officer, DARE officer, and community services officer.  On May 8, 2012, he was sworn in as a Sergeant.  He also served as Detective Sergeant.  Little more than a year later, he was promoted to Lieutenant on July 23, 2013.  Less than five years later, during April 2018, he was promoted to Police Chief.

By 2021, Chief Vanover had almost 30 years of service to three communities.

On Sunday, August 29, 2021, Chief Vanover suffered a medical emergency at his home and was rushed to Bethesda North Hospital where he died on the night of September 5, 2021 at age 56.

Chief Vanover is survived by his wife of almost 34 years, Pamela J. (Forrest) Vanover; sons, Bradley (Tess) Vanover and Matthew (Cassie) Vanover; grandson, Jordan Vanover; and siblings, Lori Vanover and Kevin (Robin) Vanover.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 10th, 2021, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Home 10211 Plainfield Rd, .  A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Shield of Ohio.
