Chief Deputy William Robert Breitfelder (1938-2018)

Bill was born October 08, 1938 to Wilber J. and Jeanette C. (Phamann) Breitfelder.  He attended Roger Bacon High School.

At 17 years old, Bill joined the United States Marine Corps and completed basic training at Parris Island during October 1956.

After military service, Bill joined the Mt. Healthy Police Department.  He transferred to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office as a Patrolman on June 27, 1963.  Patrolman Breitfelder joined the Pistol Team during March 1967.  He was promoted to Detective about 1969.

On March 9, 1970, Detective Breitfelder joined the United States Marshal’s Office as a Deputy Marshal on March 9, 1970.   During 1971 he was stationed at the Greater Cincinnati Airport and apprehended a man trying to board a plane with a concealed automatic pistol.  During 1975 he received a special commendation at a ceremony at the U.S. Attorney General’s Office in Washington D.C.; particularly for his contribution in the area of documentation.  He was serving in the witness protection program at the time.  By 1981, he had been promoted to Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal.  He retired with nearly 35 years of service to his country and community.

Chief Deputy Bretfelder passed away October 9, 2018 at the age of 80.

He was predeceased by his wife, Helen (Cassidy) Breitfelder, and daughter, Georgia Getz.  He is survived by his children, William (Annette) Breitfelder, Joseph (Lori) Breitfelder, Frederick Breitfelder, Rita Breitfelder, Michael (Tina) Breitfelder, and Susan Brennan; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Carol (Tom) Edwards.

Visitation will be held 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at St. John the Baptist Church, 5361 Dry Ridge Road.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
