Police Specialist Robert Paul Sferro  PS-25  (1939-2018)

was born August 23, 1939 in Blairsville, Pennsylvania to Paul Peter and Clarisa L. “Clara” (Coradini) Sferro.  He attended Bob Blairsville High School, where he was involved with the Hunting and Fishing Club, Football, Basketball, Track, the Visual Aids Club, Wrestling, Future Teachers of America, and the Junior Classical League and graduated in 1958.  He attended Xavier University 1958 to 1963 and then the University of Cincinnati, earning an Associate Degree in 1967.  By 1976, he had earned a Master of Science in Corrections from Xavier University.  Also, during 1960, he attended the Mercy Hospital School of X-Ray.

From August 1960, while attending college, to August 1961, Bob worked at the Jewish Hospital as an X-Ray Technician.  During that time, he married Karla Findley on October 5, 1961.  Later, they moved to Louisville where he was an Assistant Manager at the Time Finance Company.  They returned to Cincinnati in April 1963 and he worked at St. Mary’s Hospital as an Isotope Technician until November.  He then went to work for Kroger’s.

Bob joined the Cincinnati Police Division as a Police Recruit on March 23, 1964.  He was promoted to Patrolman on June 28, 1964, issued Badge No. 643, and assigned to District 7 (813 Beecher Street).  He was rotated to District 5 (1012 Ludlow Avenue) December 19, 1965.  Patrolman Sferro also served in Juvenile Bureau, Communications, and Personnel Section (all at 310 Lincoln Park Drive).  On June 27, 1967 he was promoted to Police Specialist, issued Badge No. PS-25, and five months later, transferred back to District 5.  He excelled in traffic enforcement and accident investigations and then was the district’s Crime Prevention Specialist for many years.  Specialist Sferro retired February 12, 1994 with almost 30 years of service and an astounding 111 letters of appreciation and/or commendation.

Specialist Sferro was a member of Cincinnati Moose #2 and a former volunteer firefighter with the Northern Hills Fire Department.

He passed away on August 8, 2018, 15 days before his 79th birthday, in his wife’s arms.

Specialist Sferro is survived by his wife of 56 years, Karla L. (Findley) Sferro; children, Pellar R. (Rick) Miller, Sharla (Brian) Sferro-Turner, and Shaun (Mindy Thompson) Sferro; grandchildren, Brad (Jacqui) Miller, Makenzee Daniels, Kaycee (Sammy) Brown, Karli Daniels, Maycee Miller, Brandi Turner, Taylor Turner, Branden Sferro, and Tawny Forest; great-grandchildren, Aiden Fitzpatrick; Emery Brown, and Charlotte Miller; and siblings, Paula Austin, Pete Sferro, and Regina Oswalt.

Friends may gather 11 a.m. to Noon on Friday, August 24, 2018 at Arlington Memorial Gardens Chapel at 2145 Compton Road.  FOP and Memorial services will begin at Noon.
