Larry was born December 12, 1974 to Larry M. and Theresa Cornett.  He graduated from Waynesville High School in 1993, attended Otterbein University, and played football for both. He was also a talented basketball player, earning him trips to China to play basketball.

Larry began his law enforcement journey with King’s Island Police and Security Department and then was hired as a part-time police officer with the Village of Addyston.  Officer Cornett joined the Clearcreek Township Police Department as a part-time police officer on December 3, 1998. On December 25, 1999, he was hired full-time.  By 2002, he was teaching fingerprinting at the township’s annual Citizen Police Academy.  He was promoted to Sergeant April 24, 2008 and then in January 2017 he was assigned as a Detective Sergeant.

Sergeant Cornett had served as union president for the sergeants under the Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association (OPBA) for many years and was a longtime member of the Warren County FOP Lodge 103.

Sergeant Cornett served the community during his off hours as well.  He was very involved with Special Olympics Ohio; one of the original organizers of the Caesar Creek Polar Plunge with proceeds benefiting the Special Olympics; the co-leg leader for Southwest Ohio for the Law Enforcement Torch Run; working to raise money for Special Olympics Ohio through Tip A Cop and Cop on a Rooftop events; and a board member for the Warren County Children’s Advocacy Center.

In his ‘spare’ time, Sergeant Cornett was also a Past Master of Waynesville Masonic Lodge #163, Past District Deputy Grand Master for the 2nd Masonic District, Worthy Patron of Miami Chapter #107 O.E.S, and Orator of the Dayton Chapter of Rose Croix.

Sergeant Cornett passed away unexpectedly Saturday, June 2, 2018, at his residence.  He was 43.

He is survived by his parents; wife, Rachel (Howell) Cornett; sons, Bryan Christopher Cornett and Oscar Henry Cornett; and sister, Tonya Cornett.

Visitation was held on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the Crossview Christian Church at 4237 E. Social Row Road in Waynesville.  Masonic and Scottish Rite Ring services were held after the visitation.  Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 8, 2018 with Harless Maynard officiating.  Burial followed at Miami Cemetery in Waynesville.

Memorial contributions may be made to college funds established for his sons, ages 4 and 2, at the Larry B. Cornett Charitable Fund at any Wright-Patt Credit Union branch.

  1. Great human being and cop. I worked with Larry during my 16 years in Warren County. Always a gentleman who’s two kids and wife will sorely miss him.
